From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Acoustics is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study of all mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including vibration, sound, ultrasound and infrasound. A scientist who works in the field of acoustics is an acoustician while someone working in the field of acoustics technology may be called an acoustical or audio engineer. The application of acoustics can be seen in almost all aspects of modern society with the most obvious being the audio and noise control industries. Hearing is one of the most crucial means of survival in the animal world, and speech is one of the most distinctive characteristics of human development and culture. So it is no surprise that the science of acoustics spreads across so many facets of our society—music, medicine, architecture, industrial production, warfare and more. Art, craft, science and technology have provoked one another to advance the whole, as in many other fields of knowledge. Linsday's wheel of acoustics is a well accepted overview of the different fields in acoustics. The word "acoustic" is derived from the Greek word ἀκουστικός (akoustikos), meaning "of or for hearing, ready to hear" and that from ἀκουστός (akoustos), "heard, audible", which in turn derives from the verb ἀκούω (akouo), "I hear". The Latin synonym is "sonic", after which the term sonics used to be a synonym fo acoustics and later a branch of acoustics. After acousticians had extended their studies to frequencies above and below the audible range, it became conventional to identify these frequency ranges as "ultrasonic" and "infrasonic" respectively, while letting the word "acoustic" refer to the entire frequency range without limit. GNU Free Documentation License How can I make the acoustics for where my drumset is better? Q. I have a NICE yamaha drumset that i bought a year back and it sounds horrendous in the peninsula of walls that it's located in. Whenever I bring it on stage where the acoustics are good or decent, my drumset sounds amazing. Should i buy some foam pads and put them up against the walls or is there a better way? Asked by Rhett - Tue May 19 18:37:22 2009 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments A. The best thing for acoustics are empty eggboxes. LOL. They aabsorb the sound and should be placed on the ceiling and around the walls. You can use, dampers but that won't resolve the sound bouncing of the wall. The next best thing are curtains. They absorb the sound and putting carpet on the wall from the floor up to halfway. It will improve the sound more than considerable. edit...Hey Geremy wassup LOL... Have to eat lots of eggs dude. That is why I gave other suggestion. I got eggshell easy because I knew a farm owner LOL.. Acoustically, they were the best for the ceiling over carpet and what not. And the Drum sound projects upwards just as much as the front which is why you hear it on the second floor as if the drum was in your ears.… [cont.] Answered by Left-T - Tue May 19 19:03:45 2009 Where is the cyber acoustics website?
